There
is
growing concern over the growth of e-waste in our landfills.
Electronic
devices are continually evolving resulting in consumers
replacing their older electronics for newer and faster devices.
The need to recycle these obsolete products and stop them from
being thrown out in the garbage is extremely important,
as many electronic products have toxic substances which must
be properly disposed of.
More
than 140 000 tonnes of computer equipment, phones, televisions,
stereos, and small home appliances
accumulate in Canadian landfills each year.
- Environment Canada
If
our e-waste disposal habits don’t improve by 2010
the number of electronic waste disposed of in our landfills
will
increase to 206,000 tonnes.
- Environment Canada
75%
of all personal computers ever sold are now gathering dust
as surplus
electronics.
- U.S. National Safety Council
Envirotree's goal is to encourage consumers, corporations, and organizations
to recycle all of their obsolete electronic
equipment. Recycling e-waste is not an alternative but
a necessity for a cleaner,
greener environment.
